ASUS Introduces Innovative Copilot+ PC Locks When You Walk Away, Unlocks When You Return

ASUS is joining the wave of AI-enhanced Copilot+ PCs, alongside notable brands like Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, and Microsoft. Among these, the ASUS Vivobook S 15 stands out with its sleek “ultra-thin” design and a suite of Windows AI features, including the memory assistant Recall, the image generator Cocreator, and various ASUS-exclusive AI applications.

One of the most intriguing AI-powered features of the Vivobook S 15 is its employment of the AiSense IR camera. This innovative technology detects user presence and adjusts the display accordingly. When the user looks away, the display dims, and it brightens up upon return. Moreover, stepping away from the computer triggers an automatic lock, which unlocks upon the user’s return. While its effectiveness remains to be tested, this feature holds promise for enhancing both security and privacy.

Another notable AI inclusion is StoryCube, an application designed to automatically organize RAW photos and videos. Alongside standard Copilot+ features, the laptop incorporates Windows Studio Effects for automating lighting adjustments and noise removal in video calls, as well as support for Microsoft’s Live Captions for real-time, AI-powered subtitles.

Under the hood, the Vivobook S 15 is powered by the Snapdragon X Elite chip, featuring a built-in Qualcomm Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU) capable of processing 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS). It boasts a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD and up to 32GB of 8448 MHz LPDDR5X RAM.

The laptop sports a 15.6-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2,880 x 1,620 and an impressive 89 percent screen-to-body ratio. It also features a Harmon Kardon-certified audio system with Dolby Atmos sound, while its 70 Wh battery promises up to 18 hours of usage.

Highlighted by its thin aluminum body, the Vivobook S 15’s tapered design ranges from only 0.58 to 0.63 inches (14.7 mm to 16 mm) in thickness, making it remarkably slim and lightweight at 3.13 lbs (1.4 kg), slightly lighter than Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Air.

In terms of connectivity, the laptop offers a range of ports, including two USB4, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A, HDMI, an audio combo jack, and a microSD slot. Its keyboard features customizable single-zone RGB lighting and a dedicated Copilot key for quick access to the ChatGPT-powered assistant.

The ASUS Vivobook S 15 is now available for pre-order through the company’s retail partners, with prices starting at $1,300. Additional configurations are expected to launch later this year.
