China to Enhance 'Comprehensive Ties, Deepen Cooperation' with Türkiye

Beijing: China is prepared to collaborate with the Turkish government to deepen cooperation across various fields and contribute positively to regional peace and global development, stated Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Tuesday.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these remarks during his meeting with Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

Emphasizing that fostering comprehensive, deep, and high-level China-Türkiye relations aligns with the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples, Wang expressed China’s strong support for Türkiye’s pursuit of an independent and autonomous development path. He underscored China’s backing of Türkiye’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and developmental interests, and appreciated Türkiye’s support for China’s core interests related to its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

Wang urged both countries to effectively utilize bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the China-Türkiye Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee. He emphasized enhancing synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and Türkiye’s Middle Corridor initiative to broaden cooperation areas.

China is willing to increase imports of high-quality Turkish agricultural products and encourages enterprises from both nations to continuously elevate their cooperation levels, including scientific and technological advancements. Wang highlighted the importance of close cooperation in culture, education, tourism, and aviation.

Wang also reiterated China’s readiness to enhance coordination and cooperation with Türkiye under multilateral frameworks like the United Nations. He stressed support for the UN’s central role in global governance, opposition to hegemonism and power politics, and resistance to the monopolization of international affairs by a few countries. Wang criticized unilateralism and practices such as “decoupling and cutting supply chains,” advocating for the stable operation of global supply and industry chains and the establishment of a fair and reasonable global governance system.

Foreign Minister Fidan expressed Türkiye’s strong commitment to developing its relations with China, adherence to the one-China principle, and support for China in safeguarding its core interests and major concerns.

Fidan asserted that Türkiye opposes divisive confrontations and does not support any actions aimed at hindering China’s development. He assured that Türkiye would not allow any forces to engage in activities on its territory that undermine China’s sovereignty.

Türkiye highly values China’s fair and just positions on Ukraine, the Middle East, and other issues, Fidan said, and looks forward to collaborating constructively with China to contribute to regional and global prosperity and stability.

The two ministers also exchanged views and aligned their positions on international and regional issues, including Ukraine and Palestine.

Following the meeting, they jointly addressed the press. Wang noted that China is pleased with the positive momentum in the development of bilateral relations and highlighted several key consensuses reached for the next stage of bilateral and international cooperation.
