Apple is set to shake up its iPhone lineup next year, phasing out the Plus model in favor of a new Slim version. Contrary to earlier expectations that the iPhone 17 Slim would simply be a thinner alternative to the Plus, new reports suggest it will actually be the most premium and expensive model in the range, surpassing even the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Apple’s focus on thinness is evident from its recent launch of the slimmest 13″ iPad Pro ever. Now, the company is aiming to extend this design ethos to the iPhone lineup, positioning the iPhone 17 Slim as a high-end, ultra-thin device at a premium price point.
Described by some sources as a design revolution on par with the iPhone X, the iPhone 17 Slim is anticipated to introduce a significant aesthetic overhaul for Apple in 2025. It is expected to be “significantly thinner” than any previous iPhone and may feature an aluminum chassis.
While the design is not yet finalized, Apple is reportedly exploring several options. The Dynamic Island on the front is set to shrink, and the rear camera array may be relocated to the center of the device. The exact screen size remains uncertain, although earlier rumors indicated that the display would be smaller than that of the iPhone 15 Plus.
The discontinuation of the Plus model after this year is primarily driven by its poor sales performance. The new Slim iPhone is poised to serve as a halo product, expected to captivate consumers far more effectively than the Plus ever did.
