Pakistan Condemns Israeli Attack on Rafah Refugee Camp

On Monday, Pakistan strongly condemned the Israeli bombardment and targeting of a United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) refugee camp in Rafah, Gaza Strip, resulting in multiple casualties, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

An Israeli airstrike ignited a massive blaze that killed 45 people in a tent camp in Rafah, Gaza, officials reported, triggering global outcry and calls for the implementation of a World Court ruling to halt Israel’s assault.

In scenes tragically familiar from a war now in its eighth month, Palestinian families hurried to hospitals to prepare their dead for burial after the strike on Sunday night set tents and makeshift shelters on fire.

Women wept while men held prayers beside bodies wrapped in shrouds.

The statement condemned the targeting of displaced individuals sheltered in the refugee camp as another breach of international humanitarian law by Israeli forces.

The attack, it added, blatantly defies the provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on May 24, 2024, which instructed Israel to immediately cease its military offensive in Rafah in compliance with its obligations under the Genocide Convention amid worsening humanitarian conditions for civilians.

With these actions, the statement said, Israeli forces have once again shown their disregard for international law and basic human decency.

“Pakistan reiterates its demand for the immediate and unconditional implementation of the ICJ orders from May 24, 2024. Measures must be taken to fully protect civilians in Gaza, and Israeli forces must be held accountable for the Gaza genocide,” the statement added.

“We call on the UN Security Council to play its role in preventing further attacks on civilians in Rafah and to take effective measures to protect the people of Gaza.
