Samsung Launches 3D Map View Feature Powered by SmartThings and AI

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Introduces 3D Map View Feature

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has officially launched its new 3D Map View feature, first unveiled at CES 2024.

The Map View feature transforms real floor plans into virtual images within the SmartThings app, streamlining home management. This allows users to clearly see and control their devices, adjust lighting, temperature, and air quality, and monitor energy consumption from anywhere at any time.

With the increasing number of connected devices in homes worldwide, Map View simplifies smart home management by eliminating the need to locate each device individually. Users can view their entire home layout at a glance, with real-time updates as new devices are connected.

The previous version of Map View was a 2D model requiring floor plan input. The updated 3D Map View leverages Spatial AI in Samsung devices, such as the Bespoke Jet Bot™, using LiDAR sensors to precisely measure and map a home’s layout. This enhancement helps users better understand their home’s shape and spatial conditions through detailed 3D maps.

Additionally, the feature has improved its filter function for easier monitoring and control of necessary devices. By year-end, Map View aims to offer a more customized and user-friendly smart service, integrating AI characters introduced at CES 2024.

Availability

Map View is accessible through the SmartThings app on Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as Samsung Smart TVs. Controls for the feature will also be available on additional hubs, such as Family Hub™ refrigerators, within the first half of the year.

Initially rolled out in Korea and the United States last year, Map View is now available in all countries with access to the SmartThings app.

“Samsung is dedicated to enabling customers to control their home devices conveniently at any time and place, and Map View is a testament to these efforts,” said Seungbeom Choi, Head of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to introduce various services and features to enhance smart home experiences and improve quality of life.”

Samsung is collaborating with construction companies to extend Map View’s functionality beyond homes to apartments and office spaces. The company aims to create smart environments globally, adding features like an optimized user experience (UX) for large screens to assist B2B operators with signage, and Quick Control, which allows users easy access to key functions.
