Trump Campaign Raises $53 Million in 24 Hours Following Conviction
In a remarkable surge of support, former United States President Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee (RNC) raised $141 million in May, driven significantly by his conviction in a hush money trial, according to campaign officials.
On Monday, Trump’s campaign announced that $53 million—over a third of the monthly total—was donated in the 24 hours following a New York jury’s verdict finding Trump guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records. This conviction marks a historic first for a current or former U.S. president.
The announcement, made ahead of the official campaign finance filing requirement, reveals a significant increase from April’s $76 million fundraising total.
Trump’s team credited this substantial sum to over 2 million donations, averaging $70.27 each, with a quarter of the donors contributing to Trump’s campaign for the first time. They described the fundraising success as a reflection of widespread support for Trump and a backlash against the verdict that had “outraged and motivated Americans from every walk of life.”
“Unfortunately for Democrats, their rigged political operation has backfired in a historic way, and Republicans are in a stronger position than ever to fire Crooked Joe Biden and Make America Great Again by electing President Trump on November 5,” stated RNC Chairman Michael Whatley and Co-Chairman Lara Trump.
Trump and his allies have consistently labeled the New York prosecution as a politically motivated attack orchestrated by Biden, despite no evidence suggesting the president’s involvement. The case was prosecuted at the state level, not federal.
This fundraising milestone signifies a continued upward trend for Trump’s campaign, which outpaced Biden’s in April for the first time.
In comparison, Biden and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) raised about $51 million in April. Up until April 30, 2024, Biden’s campaign amassed over $180 million, while Trump’s campaign garnered around $120 million, according to Federal Election Commission data.
