WhatsApp is developing a feature that allows users to generate AI-created profile photos, eliminating the need to upload new pictures manually. This new capability aims to help users create unique and personalized images that better reflect their personality, interests, or mood than standard photos.
To generate these custom profile pictures, users will provide a prompt describing the type of image they want. The AI will then create a personalized profile photo based on the given information. While the specific name of the AI hasn’t been disclosed yet, it’s known that WhatsApp integrated Meta AI into its platform in April 2024.
Regarding user privacy, WhatsApp Beta stated: “We believe this feature will enhance user privacy for profile photos. By using AI-generated images, users can avoid sharing real photos, reducing the risk of misuse or unauthorized sharing. Although we already have a feature to prevent screenshots of profile photos, this adds another layer of privacy.
Additionally, this feature can be helpful for users who are unsure of which photo to use. Instead of spending time searching for or taking the perfect picture, users can simply generate one by providing a prompt,” they added.
